Flower pieces/glaze experiments

Amaco Potter's Choice "Chun Plum" layered over "Ancient Jaspar"

Coyote "Gun Metal Green" layered over Laguna "Desert Yellow"
Interesting results, but maybe too flashy.

What is this?

A rose, I guess? It's kind of like a bowl, but not really. I suppose you could hang it on the wall.

Two nice cups - House Finches and Goldfish

Two finished cups: Goldfish (on the left) and a pair of house finches.

Here's an inside view of the goldfish cup. The glaze is Laguna Cerulean - it has a pleasant, satiny finish.

I'm liking the extruded handles, too. They're comfortable to hold.

Goldfish mug (unglazed)

Haven't painted one of these in a while. The rim's a bit distorted, but I like the extruded handle a lot: it'll feel hefty and comfortable.

Failed experiment

I thought it would be fun to try painting on glass (using the paints you cure at 350 degrees in your home oven), so I bought a single tube of orange as an experiment. Looks like acrylic paint on a cheap wineglass. Which indeed it is.

Like Mary Poppins says...

"Once begun is half done."

These birds will be orioles: Lord and Lady Baltimore in their apple tree.

I saw my first ever oriole this summer, right in my parents' yard in the western burbs of Cleveland. They had installed an oriole feeder in April, and apparently if you put one up at the right time, they will come.

Remarkably beautiful birds.

Pottery is fun, but can it do...

...this? Gotta love glow-in-the-dark Sculpey.

Turtle and Chipmunk bowls

Turtle Bowl with forest green interior

Chipmunk Bowl

It's my first attempt at a furry animal using underglazes... Looks okay, I guess

But I'm not crazy about the exterior glaze -- I think I applied it too thinly. Usually, it's a much richer green

Oopsiedoodle

For Christmas 2014: turtle ornaments.
Unfortunately my three prototypes were accidentally over-fired in the bisque, so they aren't going to glaze well. It's okay: I'll make more.

Chipmunk bowl (in progress)

I've never tried to paint furry animals with underglaze... not sure how it will look after firing.

Bowl fish

A new project: a hanging fish constructed of bowls strung together. I plan to do a version with thrown teabowls too.
